Initial set up
The Redwood Materials Smart Battery Collection Bin provides a free, convenient, and safe way to recycle old consumer devices and batteries.
1. Use a pallet jack to remove bin from pallet, then maneuver and place bin in desired location by a power source.
2. Use the power cord to plug the bin in.
3. The red LED light on the right of the bin should be illuminated and flashing, indicating the bin is not ready to accept batteries.
4. On the backside of the bin, find the circular button on the upper right side. Press the circular button to unlock the top door and simultaneously pull on the door to swing it fully open.
5. On the backside of the bin, find the hidden latch within a square enclosure on the middle right side and pull the latch down. The front door will then be ajar, then pull the front door fully open, so you have unimpeded access to the interior of the bin.
The bin is now ready to intake the drum lifter, drum, and jugs of CellBlockEx.
6. Remove the ratchet straps from the second pallet with the drum, jugs, and drum lifter. Remove the drum lifter from pallet.
7. Push the tines of drum lifter under pallet such that the drum is centered in between the tines.
8. Ensure the bar is at the top position by pulling the knob release on the inside left of the lifter and raising the crossbar.
9. Fasten the vinyl strap around the drum and pull on the excess strap to tighten.
10. Lower the bar by releasing the pull on the left and raising the crossbar, thereby raising the drum off the pallet.
11. Pull the drum lifter backwards to clear the pallet.
12. Once clear of the pallet, use the release on the left to lower the crossbar and the drum.
The drum on its lifter is now ready to go into the bin.
13. Push drum lifter with drum to the bin.
14. A foot away from the bin, remove the leverlock lid, and place in the front door compartment. Look for the sticker “Lid goes here.”
15. Ensure the lifter bar is in the lowered position and push the lifter fully into the bin. Line the wheelie stops at the back of the lifter with the sticker “Push lifter completely in” on the bottom left of the bin interior.
16. Close the front door firmly, you will hear a click and the door will be flush with the bin side wall.
The bin is now ready to accept the jugs of CellBlockEx.
17. Return to the pallet to collect 3 jugs of CellBlockEx and bring them to the bin.
18. Within the top door, find and open the two flaps protecting the nozzles.
19. Place two of the three jugs into the nozzles, handles facing the back of the bin and with the stickers “Dispense jug contents with this side facing front of bin” facing outwards. Check that the slide gates are aligned with the handles. Once jugs secured on their stands and the caps are within the bin nozzles, pull the jug slide gates. Wait 45 seconds for the jugs to fully dispense into the bin, then close the jug slide gates securely before removing from the stands.
20. Remove the two jugs (ensuring the slide gates are closed) and place on the ground.
21. Put the third jug on a nozzle (either one) and repeat step 18. Close the flap of the nozzle not in use.
22. Wait 45 seconds for the jug to fully dispense, then close the slide gate and remove the third jug from the nozzle.
23. Ensure both nozzle flaps are closed and hit the reset button within the right side of the top door compartment. The reset button will have a sticker “Press to reset.”
24. After pressing reset, close the top door firmly.
25. Within 20 seconds, the red LED light should go out and a steady green LED will illuminate.
