We’re building a circular supply chain to power a sustainable world.

Problem

Climate change is creating a global imperative to electrify and accelerate the reduction of fossil fuels. Batteries are the solution. Electrification is projected to increase lithium-ion demand over 500% by 2030. The supply chain is unprepared to support that growth.

500%

Surging battery demand
Demand for lithium-ion batteries estimated to grow 500% in the next 10 years.

50,000

Unsustainable supply chain
The number of miles that materials must move before they reach a battery cell factory.

300 TWh

Gap in capacity
The world is estimated to need 300 terawatts of battery capacity to be fully sustainable.

Problem

As battery demand surges globally, we need to quickly and sustainably ramp the supply chain. Currently, materials move 50,000+ miles before they reach a battery cell factory.

  • Cathode and anode, the two core components in a lithium-ion battery, aren’t produced in North America today.

  • As a result, U.S. cell manufacturers will spend more than $150B overseas on these materials by 2030.

Engineering sustainability

Solution

Redwood is transforming the battery supply chain by offering large-scale sources of domestic anode and cathode materials produced from an increasing number of recycled batteries that directly go back to U.S. cell manufacturers.
